Fiona's
doing great!
August 2000
-- Sorry everyone that it has taken us so long to update
Fiona's site. I think the last time we updated you was back
in March after Fiona's February successful MRI.
Well Fiona
is doing marvelous, she had two more MRI's since on May 7th
and July 24th and, thank God, no trace of tumors.
Fiona has finished
5 three-month cycles of chemotherapy and her doctors feel that
she doesn't require any more. She is about to commence a 6 week
low dose radiation (1800/5000) schedule beginning Thursday August
24th, and then her treatment will be complete.
Fiona has beaten
so many odds in making it 14 months tumor-free and we as a family
know this and are so proud of her achievements. She is considered
right now in remission however radiation is considered necessary
as a precautionary measure.
Fiona's chemotherapy
went extremely well in the past two cycles. She was able to
fulfill all appointments and was rarely sick after the initial
12-24 hours following her monthly inpatient treatments of cytoxin
and cisplatin. Her high-pitch hearing has been affected slightly
by the cisplatin but her doctor's halved her doses when this
was observed. Her kidney function levels were a little down
with her last GFR testing but nothing that cannot correct itself
in the future please God.
Fiona is and always
will be an amazing child. She brings a smile to our faces every
time you look at her. She is so happy when she knows her hair
is coming back and feels very sad initially when it's taken
away again by the chemotherapy medications. The evaluation she
received at 2 years, 10 months, was of a child developing away
above her age. She is a very bright and happy three year old
and with God's help she will continue to progress so well after
her radiation treatment.
She had a beautiful
3rd birthday party on July 16th with her sister Niamh and lots
of friends and a cute clown. She is a asking to go to pre-school
where her big sister Niamh goes, so we plan to start her at
The Mulberry school in mid-October. She wants to be a big girl
like her sister.
Again, our family
is so grateful to everyone, - doctors, nurses and friends for
their great care, their wonderful support and constant prayers
in helping us through this time.
A very special thank
you to Tina for this wonderful site. It's a credit to you and
we really appreciate it.
Thanks and God Bless
Fiona, Niamh,
Maureen and Ger Mulrooney
